The Sanford Lab is seeking a limited-term employee to help process and analyze soil samples collected in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota. The Soil Technician position is a great opportunity for students who have recently graduated to gain hands-on experience working in a soil science laboratory with fellow soil enthusiasts. The position will include:
- Sieving samples to prepare soils for further processing and analysis
- Using a mechanical ball mill to pulverize and homogenize soil samples
- Testing soils for inorganic carbon and measuring soil pH
- Helping to perform soil analyses such as soil texture and particulate organic matter
- Preparing soil samples for carbon and nitrogen analysis
No previous experience working with soils or in a laboratory is necessary, but the candidate must demonstrate strong organizational skills and a desire to learn new laboratory procedures.
